MORRIS, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team was unable to slow down the hot-shooting Minnesota Morris Cougars in an 89-39 loss on Wednesday.
The Cougars shot 59.6 percent overall for the game and also made six of their 12 attempts from beyond the three-point arc. UMM also took advantage of 22 MLC turnovers, turning them into 29 points on the other end.
UMM jumped out to an early lead, and then outscored MLC 28-10 in the second quarter to take a 46-17 halftime advantage on the way to the win.
Sarah Dewey scored a career-high 14 points in defeat for MLC, while
Emily Witkowski added nine points.
Faith Otte led the Knights with four assists to go with her seven points.
Kendra Raths led four UMM starters in double figures with 19 points.
MLC fell to 1-13 on the season and 1-5 in UMAC play in defeat. UMM improved to 8-6 overall and 5-1 in league play with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, January 12, when they travel to Northwestern for a game scheduled to tip off at 3 p.m.
