Men Tie Crown 2-2

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team battled Crown College to a 2-2 draw in a non-conference game Wednesday night.

The teams battled the elements during the late start, and it was the Storm who jumped out first with a goal in the 21st minute to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.

MLC battled back in the second half, as Jon Pedersen tied the game in the 55th minute off assists from Lucas Martin and Clay Hirsch. Five minutes later, the Knights took the lead thanks to an own goal by the Storm in the 60th minute.

Crown wouldn't back down, however, and scored the equalizer in the 82nd minute to force overtime.

In the extra periods, the Knights had several chances in front of the Storm goal, including a scrum off a corner kick in the second overtime, but were unable to find the back of the net as they settled for the tie.

MLC outshot the Storm 23-13 for the game, including an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal. The Knights also had 12 corner kicks to only three for the Storm.

Joe Graumann led MLC with six total shots and three shots on goal. Lemke added three total shots and two shots on goal.

In goal, keeper Joshua Higgins stopped four of six shots for MLC.

The Knights moved to 3-6-2 following the tie, while Crown is now 2-8-1.

MLC will return to action on Saturday, October 5, when it hosts UW-Superior in a game scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
