Carleton Rallies to Top Knights in Four

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The Martin Luther College volleyball team dropped its match at Carleton 3-1 (20-25, 25-16, 25-9, 25-20).

MLC controlled the first set on the way to a 1-0 lead in the match, but Carleton roared back with 25-16 and 25-9 wins in the second and third sets, respectively.

The Knights came out on fire to start the third set and built an 18-12 lead, but Carleton rallied to win 13 of the final 15 points to win the set and the match.

Carleton was dominant on the block throughout the match, blocking 14 MLC attacks and forcing the Knights to an attack efficiency of -.058 for the match. After hitting .111 in the opening set, MLC was held to a negative attack percentage in the final three games.

Kati Aguilar led MLC with nine kills, while Kelsey Birschbach finished with seven kills, three service aces, 14 digs and two blocks. 

Kate Aswege tied Birschbach for the team lead with 14 digs. Alyssa Heckendorf finished with a team-best three blocks.

MLC fell to 2-15 on the season in defeat, while Carleton improved to 5-11 with the win.

The Knights will return to action on Saturday, October 5, when they travel to Northland for a match scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
