Comeback Falls Short in Season Finale at Crown

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. - The Martin Luther College volleyball team's comeback from an 0-2 deficit fell just short in a 3-2 (25-21, 25-22, 20-25, 16-25, 15-13) defeat at Crown College on Wednesday.

The Knights dropped a pair of close sets to start the match, but won the next two sets 25-20 and 25-16 to force a fifth and deciding game.

In that fifth set, the teams went back and forth and were tied 13-13 late before the Storm won the final two points to secure the win.

The Knights committed 16 hitting errors in the first two sets, but came back to finish the game with an attack efficiency of .096 compared to .081 for the Storm.

Alyssa Heckendorf led the MLC hitters with 10 kills and an attack percentage of .450. She also finished with two solo blocks.

Kelsey Birschbach recorded nine kills and 12 digs on the night, while Jewel St. Germaine finished with 16 assists and 20 digs. Kate Aswege led all players with 22 digs.

MLC finished its season 4-23 overall and 2-6 in UMAC play following the loss. Crown improved to 4-17 on the season and 1-7 in league play with the win.
