Women Win 2-1 at BLC

MANKATO, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team completed the season sweep of Bethany Lutheran College with a 2-1 road win on Wednesday.

The Knights defeated the Vikings 4-0 in non-conference play on September 18, but found themselves trailing 1-0 following a BLC goal in the 27th minute.

MLC would respond quickly, however, as Abby Enstad scored her first goal of the season in the 29th minute (just 77 seconds after BLC's goal) to tie the game at one.

The Knights would take the lead in the 38th minute thanks to Nicole Porter's second goal of the season to take a 2-1 lead into the half, and keeper Mollie Fischer and the defense would make that one-goal lead stand the rest of the way.

The Vikings outshot the Knights 8-2 in the second half, including a 4-2 edge in shots on goal, but Fischer stood tall with seven total saves on the night.

MLC improved to 5-5 on the season and 2-0 in UMAC play with the win. BLC fell to 6-6 overall and 2-1 in league play in defeat.

The Knights will return to action on Friday, October 11, when they travel to St. Scholastica for a game scheduled to start at 4 p.m. The two teams were originally scheduled to play on Saturday, October 12, but the game was bumped up one day to avoid bad weather in the Saturday forecast.
