MLC Wins 3-1 to Advance to UMAC Tournament Semifinal

ASHLAND, Wis. - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team overcame an early deficit to win 3-1 at Northland College in the quarterfinal round of the UMAC Postseason Tournament.

The game didn't start the way the Knights hoped, as the LumberJacks scored 27 seconds into the game on the way to a 1-0 halftime lead.

The Knights gave Northland a taste of its own medicine to start the second half, however, as Nathan Lemke curled a long shot over the keeper into the upper right corner just 22 seconds into the second half to tie the game 1-1.

Joe Graumann put the Knights ahead with a breakaway goal in the 64th minute, and Xander Heiman finished the scoring with an insurance goal in the 87th minute.

Josh Thiesfeldt assisted on Lemke's equalizing goal early in the second half, while Lemke added a helper on Graumann's game-winner.

The LumberJacks were credited with 21 shots compared to 16 for the Knights, but the two teams each finished with 11 shots on goal.

Joshua Higgins was steady in goal after the tough start, stopping 10 of the 11 LumberJack shots.

MLC improved to 6-12-2 on the season with the win, and advanced to the semifinal round of the UMAC Postseason Tournament on Wednesday, November 6, against top-seeded UW-Superior.

Northland fell to 4-12-1 on the season in defeat.
