MINNETONKA, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's tennis team split its triangular on Saturday at the Oakdale Valley Tennis Club, defeating Northwestern (Iowa) 7-2 before falling 9-0 to Morningside.
MLC 7, NWC 2
MLC earned its first win of the season by the final of 7-2 against Northwestern (Iowa).
The Red Raiders took the hard fought number one doubles match 8-7, but the number two team of
Nicolas Gartner and Josh Schroeder won 8-0, while the number three team of
Seth Koelpin and
Caleb Koelpin gave MLC a 2-1 lead in the match with an 8-1 win.
In singles,
Josh Koelpin won the number one match 6-4, 6-4, while Gartner,
Jonah Schulz, Schroeder and
Caleb Koelpin each added straight sets wins of their own to secure the team win for MLC.
Morningside 9, MLC 0
After the win over NWC, the Knights were unable to slow down Morningside in a 9-0 defeat.
Morningside dominated the doubles matches with wins by the scores of 8-1, 8-0 and 8-1, and then scored six singles wins in straight sets to get the team win.
MLC moved to 1-3 on the season with the split, and will return to action on Tuesday, February 19, for a non-conference match against North Central at Lifetime Fitness Center in Lakeville, Minn.
