LAKEVILLE, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's tennis team opened UMAC play with an 8-1 win over North Central University at Lifetime Fitness Center on Wednesday.
MLC opened with a 3-0 sweep of doubles action as the number one team of
Anna Hemmelman and
Morgan Shevey, as well as the number three team of
Dana Pietrzyk and
Tatum Bollmeier, won their matches by the scores of 8-0. In number two doubles, the team of
Sophia Birner and
Ella Loersch won 8-6 to complete the sweep.
The Knights continued that momentum in singles competition by winning five of the six matches in straight sets. Hemmelman, Birner, Shevey, Loersch and Bollmeier all took home wins to lead the Knights to the conference win.
MLC improved to 2-5 on the season and 1-0 in UMAC play with the win. NCU fell to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in league play in defeat.
After a busy winter portion of the schedule, the Knights will take a breather until they return to action on March 23 at UW-River Falls.
