RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The Martin Luther College women's tennis team battled UW-River Falls to a 5-4 defeat at Ramer Field Courts on Saturday in the team's first action since late-February.
The Knights' number one doubles team of
Anna Hemmelman and
Morgan Shevey took home an 8-6 win, but the Falcons took the other two doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
The two teams split the six singles matches, as Hemmelman (6-3, 6-1), Shevey (6-4, 7-5) and
Tatum Bollmeier (6-1, 6-2) each won their matches in straight sets. The Knights had a chance to take the match, but number four singles player
Ella Loersch (6-1, 5-7, 1-0) fell just short in her attempt for a three-set comeback.
MLC fell to 2-6 on the season in defeat, while UWRF improved to 3-8 with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Wednesday, March 27, when they travel to Wartburg for a match scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
