WATERTOWN, Wis. - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team lost its final non-conference game of the season by the score of 59-42 at Maranatha Baptist on Saturday.
The Knights played one of their best defensive games of the season, holding the Sabercats to 31.7 percent from the field and forcing 16 turnovers to keep within striking distance.
MLC trailed by only six points (23-17) at the half, but MBU started to create distance in the third quarter, outscoring the Knights 23-12 on the way to a 17-point lead heading into the final period.
In that final stanza, the Knights cut the deficit to 11 points, but was as close as they could get.
MBU made only three of 22 attempts from beyond the three-point arc, but made up for it at the free throw line by shooting 16-23 at the charity stripe.
Emily Witkowski led MLC with 20 points and nine rebounds.
Halley Engelbrecht and
Faith Otte each added six points apiece.
MLC fell to 1-22 on the season in defeat, while MBU improved to 10-6 with the win.
The Knights will return to UMAC play on Wednesday, February 13, when they travel to Crown College for a game scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
