SUPERIOR, Wis. - The Martin Luther College women's tennis eam suffered its first UMAC defeat by the final of 7-2 at UW-Superior on Saturday.
The Knights' number-one doubles team of
Anna Hemmelman and
Morgan Shevey put the team on the board with an 8-5 win, but the Yellowjackets won the other two matches 8-6 and 8-2 to take a 2-1 lead overall.
Hemmelman continued her strong play in singles, winning her number-one match in straight sets 6-1, 6-2, but UWS won the remaining five matches in straight sets to secure the win.
The win was Hemmelman's fourth straight this season and the seventh in her last eight matches. She also holds a 10-match winning streak in singles competition dating back to the 2017 season.
MLC fell to 2-8 overall and 1-1 in UMAC play in defeat. UWS improved to 5-5 this season and 1-0 in league play with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Tuesday, April 2, when they host Minnesota Morris in the home opener. That match is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
