NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's tennis team dominated the Crown College Storm in a 9-0 win in the final home match of the season on Wednesday.
Playing in front of the biggest home crown to date thanks to great weather and their fellow students enjoying Arbor Day, the Knights got off to a strong start with three doubles wins, all by the score of 8-0.
The Knights continued their strong play in singles competition as the Storm were able to win only six total games in six MLC straight-sets wins.
Anna Hemmelman won in number-one singles 6-2, 6-1, while
Sophia Birner and
Morgan Shevey won their numbers two and three matches 6-1, 6-0.
Ella Loersch came out on top 6-0, 6-1 in number-four singles, while
Dana Pietrzyk and
Tatum Bollmeier each won 6-0, 6-0 at the bottom of the line-up.
MLC improved to 5-11 on the season and 2-4 in UMAC play with the win. Crown fell to 0-13 overall and 0-6 in conference play in defeat.
The Knights are scheduled to finish the season with a match at Bethany Lutheran on Saturday, April 27, at 12 p.m., but bad weather in the forecast could cause the match to be moved to a different date.Â
