Men Fall to Viterbo in Overtime

NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team played well, but was unable to get over the hump in a 3-2 overtime loss at Viterbo on Saturday.

The Knights conceded goals in the 13th and 24th mintue, but entered the half trailing only 2-1 thanks to Joe Graumann's fifth goal of the season off an assist from Caleb Koelpin in the 22nd minute.

MLC would quickly tie the game thanks to Clay Hirsch's equalizer in the 49th minute off assists from Xander Heiman and Graumann, and the two teams played the rest of the half even to force sudden death overtime.

In the extra period, Sam Ginther of the V-Hawks scored his second goal of the game in the 94th minute to give Viterbo the 3-2 win.

Graumann finished the game with a team-best five shots, including three shots on goal, while Josh Higgins stopped eight Viterbo shots on goal.

MLC fell to 2-6-1 on the season in defeat, while Viterbo improved to 4-3 with the win.

The Knights will return to action on Saturday, September 28, when they travel to North Central for the opening game of Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play.
