MINNEAPOLIS - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team overcame a late deficit to win 2-1 in overtime at North Central on Saturday.
The Knights trailed 1-0 after 81 minutes of play before sophomore
Xander Heiman scored off a pass from
Lucas Martin in the 82nd minute to send the game into overtime.
In the extra period,
Mark Burger netted the game winner off a Martin throw-in 81 seconds into overtime to give the Knights the win.
Heiman's goal was the first of his college career, while Burger's game-winner was the second of the season.
The Knights outshot the Rams 23-16 overall and 16-9 in shots on goal for the game. Sophomore keeper
Joshua Higgins allowed a goal in the 22nd minute, but stopped the eight remaining NCU shots to help the Knights to the win.
MLC improved to 3-6-1 on the season and moved to 1-0 in UMAC play with the win. NCU dropped to 2-9 overall and 0-2 in league play in defeat.
The Knights will return to action on Wednesday, October 2, when they travel to Crown College for a game scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
