SUPERIOR, Wis. - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team was unable to slow down UW-Superior once it got going in an 81-43 loss on Saturday.
The Knights battled back and forth with the Yellowjackets to start, and held a 16-15 lead with 7:51 to play in the second quarter.
It would be all UWS from there, however, as it held MLC to only three points the rest of the quarter on the way to a 40-19 halftime lead, and then opened the second half with five straight points on the way to the win.
UWS finished the game shooting 44.3 percent from the field and shot a scorching 63.2 percent in the second quarter to turn the game in its favor. The Yellowjackets also shot 7-22 from beyond the three-point line and turned 21 MLC turnovers into 27 points on the other end.
MLC was unable to get going on the offensive end, shooting 26.9 percent overall and making only two of 13 attempts from downtown.
Cassandra Rose led the Knights with 11 points.
Kortney Behnke finished with a team-high eight rebounds.
The Knights fell to 3-20 on the season and 3-12 in UMAC play in defeat. UWS improved to 16-7 overall and 12-2 in league play with the win.
MLC will return to action on Wednesday, February 19, when it travels to Minnesota Morris to play in its UMAC finale. That game is scheduled to tip off at 7:15 p.m.
