Knights Split on Day Three Against Cazenovia

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Martin Luther College baseball team split its doubleheader against Cazenovia on day three of its Florida trip, winning game one 6-3 before losing a wild game two 16-13 on Sunday.

Andrew Deisinger (1-0) earned the win with a complete game effort, allowing three runs on seven hits. He also added six punchouts without walking a batter.

The offense scored twice in the second inning thanks to an Aaron Roeseler triple, followed by a Caleb Christopher double to give MLC a 2-1 lead.

Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Knights took the lead for good with four runs, capped by a three-run home run by Luke Willems that scored Roeseler and Christopher.

Roeseler finished with two of the team's five hits in the game, and also added a stolen base.

Cazenovia came back from a big deficit with 10 runs in its final two times at bat to win game two 16-13.

The Knights allowed six runs in the first two innings, but came back to take the lead with five runs in both the second and third frames. Roeseler had a two-run single to to cap the scoring in the second, while Christopher doubled home two in the third.

Roseler continued his big day two innings later with a two-run home run, but Cazenovia roared back with seven runs in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth to take the lead on the way to the win.

Roeseler finished the game 5-5 at the plate (7-7 for the doubleheader) with five runs batted in and three runs scored. Christopher recorded four RBI in the game and also broke the MLC record with his 34th career double, passing Tyler Morgan's previous record of 33.
