Big Second Half Pushes UWS to 4-1 Win

NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team played first-place UW-Superior (UWS) well, but could not overcome a second-half scoring binge in a 4-1 loss on Friday.

The teams went into the half scoreless, and remained that way until the 59th minute, when Allison Alessi finally broke through with a goal for the Yellowjackets.

UWS built off the momentum created by that score, and added three more goals in the next 15 minutes, capped by a penalty kick goal in the 74th minute.

MLC sophomore Hannah Schroeder put the Knights on the board in the 85th minute with a goal off a pass from Nicole Porter, but it was too late for the Knights to come back.

Schroeder's goal was her team-leading fifth of the season.

Avery Broyles created a number of opportunities for the Knights in the second half, including twice hitting the goal post to go with one shot on goal.

Grace Sievert stopped nine shots in goal for MLC.

MLC fell to 3-9-1 on the season and 2-6-1 in UMAC play in defeat. UWS improved to 10-3-0 overall, and remain in first place in the conference with an unbeaten 8-0-0 record in league play.

The Knights will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, October 16) when they host Northland College in a game scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
