MORRIS, Minn. - The Martin Luther College volleyball team lost both matches of its Saturday triangular, falling 3-0 to both University of Minnesota Morris (UMM) and UW-Stout (UWS).
UMM 3, MLC 0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-16)
The Knights struggled to control the hitters from the Cougars in a 3-0 defeat in the opening match.
UMM hit .288 on the attack for the game, compared to .047 for MLC.
Three different Cougar hitters hit .350 or better on the attack with at least 10 kills, with Lydia Nash leading that trio with 15 kills.
Kelsey Birschbach led MLC with nine kills.
Kate Aswege finished with 16 digs.
UW-Stout 3, MLC 0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-16)
MLC was unable to overcome a tough first-set defeat in a 3-0 loss to UW-Stout in the second match.
The teams went back and forth in the opening set, but the Blue Devils broke a 23-23 tie late in the game with the final two points to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
UW-Stout would take control from there, winning the final two sets 25-13 and 25-16 to secure the sweep.
Lauren Paulsen finished with a team-best seven kills, while
Kaylie Solomon added three blocks.
MLC fell to 9-14 on the season and 8-4 in UMAC play following the two defeats.
The Knights will return home for their match against North Central on Tuesday, October 26. That match is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
