NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's basketball team could not keep pace with Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) down the stretch of an 84-68 loss on Saturday.
The Knights played hard throughout the game, frustrating the Raiders with full-court pressure and forcing 16 turnovers, but could not contain MSOE guard Michael Pitrof, who made his first 11 shots on the way to 34 points on 14-17 shooting from the field.
Pitrof went 10-10 in the first half and scored 25 of the Raiders' 44 points to help them to a 12-point lead at the break.
The Knights battled to start the second half and cut the MSOE lead to only four points at 63-59 with an
Ezra Blumer lay-up with 8:36 to play in the game, but the Raiders answered with a 12-2 run over the next four minutes to push their lead back into double figures the rest of the way.
MSOE shot 52.2 percent from the field for the game. Pitrof made all five of their three-point field goals, but the Raiders outscored MLC 50-28 in the paint for the game.
MLC shot 46.6 percent from the field and a season-best 9-17 from beyond the three-point arc, but MSOE turned the Knights' 19 turnovers into 25 points on the other end, including 14 fast break points.
Blumer led MLC with 15 points and four assists.
Joseph Hirsch added 14 points and a team-high 11 rebounds, while
Jacob Price added 12 points off the bench.
The Knights fell to 0-6 on the season in defeat. MSOE improved to 4-1 with the win.
MLC will return to action on Tuesday, November 23, when it travels to WLC for a game scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
