NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's basketball team could not keep up with the explosive offense of Northwestern-St. Paul (UNW) in a 91-62 defeat on Saturday.
The Knights started fast and held an early 12-6 lead, but the Eagles erased their deficit with a 14-0 run, and continued to push forward on the way to a 45-30 halftime lead.Â
UNW would put the game away right out of the locker as it started the second half with a 16-2 run to push the lead to 61-32 before cruising to the win.
The Knights scuffled on the offensive end, shooting 34.9 percent overall and going 8-31 from beyond the three-point arc. UNW shot 52.5 percent for the game, including 57.1 percent in the second half in the win.
Jack Heichelbech led MLC with 11 points in the game.
Joseph Hirsch added eight points.
MLC fell to 1-5 on the season in defeat. UNW improved to 5-2 with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Monday, February 15, when they travel to Crown College for a non-conference contest scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m.
