SUPERIOR, Wis. - The Martin Luther College women's tennis team was competitive in a 7-2 defeat to open the season at UW-Superior in non-conference action.

The Knights fell behind early as the Yellowjackets took an early 3-0 lead in doubles play. UWS won those three matches by the scores of 8-2, 8-3 and 8-5.

In singles play, Dana Pietrzyk and Charis Glende each scored wins. Pietrzyk won her number-four match 7-6 (7-4) and 6-3, while Glende came back after losing the first set in number-five singles to win 4-6, 6-4 and 10-6. Hannah Broring also forced a third set in number-six singles, but fell 6-2, 6-7 (5-7) and 10-3.

UWS improved to 1-0 to start its season, while the Knights fell to 0-1.

MLC will open the UMAC season when it travels to St. Scholastica on March 27 for a match scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
