NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's basketball team finished the conference season with an emphatic 94-75 win over Northland College on Saturday.
After a frustrating start to the week with last-minute defeats to Minnesota Morris and UW-Superior, the Knights left nothing to chance against the Lumberjacks, leading for 38:32 of the 40 minutes and building a lead as big as 23 points during the game.
Junior wing
Joey Behm got the Knights started with a scintillating first half. Behm aggressively hunted shots on the perimeter and in the paint on the way to 20 first-half points on 8-10 shooting overall and 4-6 on shots beyond the three-point arc to help MLC take a 46-34 lead into the half.
With the Lumberjacks' defense stretched to stop Behm, MLC did its damage inside after halftime. The Knights shot 60.6 percent overall and went 16-21 on shots inside the arc in the second half as they pushed the lead over 20 points on the way to the win.
MLC shot 59.4 percent for the game and finished with six players in double figures. The Knights also made 10 of 26 attempts from beyond the arc.
Defensively, MLC pressured Northland for much of the game and turned 13 Lumberjack turnovers into 24 points on the other end. Northland finished the day shooting 41.1 percent overall.
Behm was the game's high-scorer with a career-high 26 points (10-14 field goals, 6-10 three-pointers).
