Volleyball Defeats Storm in Four

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. - The Martin Luther College volleyball team won its second straight match to open the season with a 3-1 (25-17, 25-13, 19-25, 25-16) victory at Crown on Thursday in non-conference play.

The Knights started fast and dominated the first two sets, hitting .250 and .208 on the attack in those games to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Crown came back in the third set with a big run late force to a fourth game. In that fourth set, the Knights wrestled control back with 15 kills on the way to securing the 3-1 overall win.

Kelsey Birschbach had a big night for MLC, leading the team in both kills (14) and digs (21). Kylie Wolf recorded a double-double of her own with a team-best 25 assists to go with 11 digs.

Kate Aswege trailed only Birschbach in the match with 20 digs, while Rhianna Hunter and Hannah Willems each finished with eight kills.

The Knights improved to 2-0 on the season with the win, while Crown fell to 0-1 in defeat.

MLC will return to action for its home and UMAC opener on Saturday, March 6, when it hosts Northland College in a match scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
