ST. PAUL - The Martin Luther College baseball team opened its season with a pair of non-conference defeats at University of Northwestern-St. Paul (UNW) by the scores of 10-0 and 19-0 on Thursday.
UNW 10, MLC 0
The Eagles jumped in front early and never looked back in a 10-0 win in game one.
UNW scored at least two runs in four of their six turns at bat and finished the game with 12 hits.Â
Tony Sahatjian led the MLC offense with two hits (a double and triple), while
Mason Cox recorded a hit and stolen base in his MLC debut.Â
Michael Fromm (0-1) pitched the first five innings for MLC and took the loss.Â
UNW 19, MLC 0
Game two was more of the same as UNW secured the doubleheader sweep with a 19-0 win over MLC.
Already leading 4-0 after three innings, UNW put the game away with an 11-run fourth inning, and then added two more runs in each of the next two frames.
MLC was held to only one hit (a double by
Joey Behm in the fourth inning) in the game.Â
Jackson Lindemann (0-1) started the game and took the loss for MLC.
The Knights fell to 0-2 to open the season following the two defeats. UNW improved to 10-7 on the season with the two wins.
MLC will return to action on Monday, April 5, when they host Crown College for a single non-conference game. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
