Volleyball Tops Storm in Four

NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College volleyball team scored a 3-1 win over Crown College by the scores of 25-17, 25-21, 19-25, 25-18 on Thursday.

The Knights were in control throughout the night, winning the first two sets without ever trailing, and then overcoming a disappointing third set defeat with a strong fourth game to close out the match.

MLC opened the match with 18 kills in the first set and recorded 55 kills for the match with an attack efficiency of .110. Kelsey Birschbach led the charge with 17 kills, while Kaylie Solomon recorded 10 kills with an efficient .333 attack percentage from the right side.

Kate Aswege was one of four MLC players with at least 10 digs and finished with a team-best 18 digs. Birschbach and Naomi Bridgeman each finished with 14 digs, while Abigail Winkel recorded a team-high three blocks. 

Kylie Wolf finished with 29 assists. Paige Biesterfeld recorded 17 assists to go with four kills and 12 digs.

MLC improved to 4-5 on the season and 2-5 in UMAC play with the win. Crown fell to 0-9 overall and 0-7 in league play in defeat.

The Knights will return to action on Saturday, April 3, when they host UW-Superior in the regular season finale. The match is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
