MORRIS, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 defeat at University of Minnesota Morris (UMM) thanks to a pair of second-half goals by the Cougars.
The two teams finished the first half 0-0, but the Knights started the scoring early in the second half thanks to
Erika Rosenbaum's second goal of the season in the 53rd minute to give the Knights a 1-0 advantage. Rosenbaum's goal came off a strong shot by
Nicole Porter that hit the cross bar, and Rosenbaum was in position in front of the net to score off the rebound.Â
The MLC lead was short-lived, however, as UMM found an equalizer in the 58th minute on a goal by Monica Calderon to tie the game 1-1.Â
The score remained tied until the 78th minute, when Harper Toward scored the game-winner off an MLC turnover to give the Cougars the final 2-1 advantage.Â
Mollie Fischer was strong in net for MLC with nine saves on 11 UMM shots on goal. Porter and
Hannah Schroeder each recorded a pair of shots for MLC, with Porter adding an assist on the Rosenbaum goal.
MLC fell to 0-4 on the season and in UMAC play in defeat. UMM improved to 3-1 overall and 3-0 in league play with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, April 17, when they travel to Northwestern for a game scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
