NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College baseball team lost both games of its Friday doubleheader at Carleton by the scores of 8-1 and 11-3.
Carleton 8, MLC 1
Carleton used a four-run third inning to break free of MLC in an 8-1 win in game one.
Carleton took a 1-0 lead with a two-out run in the first inning, but MLC tied the game 1-1 in the top of the third thanks to a
Mason Cox RBI-single that scored
Caleb Heckendorf.
That momentum would not last for MLC, however, as Carleton answered with four runs in the third, and then put the game away with a three-run fifth inning.Â
Cox led MLC with a pair of hits.
Zachary Klement, Micahel Fromm and Heckendorf each added one hit.
Jackson Lindemann (0-2) started the game for MLC and allowed five runs on five hits in 2.2 innings.
Matthew Rieger pitched the fnial 3.1 innings in relief, allowing three runs on four hits.
Carleton 11, MLC 3
Carleton batted around in the first inning and never looked back as it took game two 11-3.
Tony Sahatjian scored the first run of the game for MLC on a
Jonas Lindemann single in the first inning, but Carleton once again answered the Knights' offense with a big inning. Carleton sent 10 batters to the plate and scored six times in the bottom of the first to build a big lead early.
MLC came back for two runs in the third inning thanks to RBI from Cox and Sahatjian, but that would be all the score the Knights could muster.
Callahan Diersen (0-1) took the loss for the Knights after the big first inning.
Aaron Bode and Brandon Mueller pitched the final 5.2 innings in relief, allowing a combined five runs on 12 hits.
Sahatjian led MLC with a pair of hits at the plate.
MLC fell to 0-7 on the season in defeat. Carleton improved to 2-5 with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Tuesday, April 20, when they host Crown College for a doubleheader scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m.
