NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team tied Northland College 1-1 in its return home on Friday.
The Lumberjacks controlled play in the opening minutes, but MLC countered in the sixth minute when
Lucas Martin took a pass from
David Martin and ripped it underneath the Northland keeper to take a 1-0 lead.
Northland pressured the Knights throughout the game, and even had a penalty kick in the 70th minute, but MLC keeper
Joshua Higgins saved that shot and every other one until the Lumberjacks finally found the equalizer in the 78th minute to send the game into overtime.
The Knights out-shot the Lumberjacks 7-6 in the two extra periods, and both teams had scoring chances, but neither team could find the game-winner before the game ended with the 1-1 final.
Higgins was stellar all day for MLC with 19 saves out of 20 Northland shots on goal.
Lucas Martin was the top MLC threat up top with six shots (including two shots on goal). The goal was his second of the season.
MLC moved to 1-3-2 on the season and in league play with the tie, while Northland moved to 3-3-1 overall and 3-2-1 in league play.
The Knights will return to action at Crown College on Tuesday, April 27. That game is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m.
