Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Santos Scores Two in 3-1 Win

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team scored twice early and never looked back in a 3-1 win at Crown College on Tuesday.

The Knights wasted little time taking control of the game, as Isaias Santos scored in the fifth minute off a pass from Clay Hirsch to give the Knights the early 1-0 lead.

David Martin joined in the fun shortly after, netting his third goal of the season in the 10th minute off assists from Santos and Lucas Martin to push the lead to 2-0.

The Storm tried to come back with a goal in the 29th minute, but Santos gave the momentum back to the Knights with his second tally of the game in the 40th minute to give MLC its two-goal margin again.

That would be all the Knights needed, as the defense and keeper Joshua Higgins held the Storm off the scoreboard the rest of the way to secure the win.

Santos' two goals pushed his team-leading total to four on the season, and his assist was his second of the season. Santos also led MLC with five total shots in the game, while Lucas Martin added four (three on goal).

Higgins, who was named UMAC Defensive Player of the Week earlier in the day, stopped eight of the nine shots he faced in goal.

The Knights improved to 2-3-2 on the season and in UMAC play with the win. Crown fell to 0-7 overall and in league play in defeat.

MLC will return home for its regular season finale on Saturday, May 1, when it hosts North Central in a game scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
