MLC Women Shut Out Northland 3-0

NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team shut out Northland 3-0 for its first win of the season on Friday.

MLC was in control from start to finish, as Megan Marohn created multiple early scoring chances and drew a penalty inside the Northland box in the fourth minute, leading to Lydia Bitter scoring off the penalty kick for her first goal of the season.

Nicole Porter increased the MLC lead in the 29th minute, taking an Avery Broyles pass down the left side and scoring on the far side of the goal to give the Knights a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

The Knights struck quickly once again to start the second half, as Bitter scored in the 49th minute off a pass from Hannah Schroeder to get the final three-goal margin.

MLC finished the game with a 33-3 advantage in total shots, including a 14-1 advantage in shots on goal.

Keeper Mollie Fischer didn't see a single shot in her 76 minutes of play, and Grace Sievert finished the shutout by stopping the Lumberjills' lone shot on goal in the final minutes.

Bitter finished with games hits in shots (eight) and shots on goal (seven) to go with her two goals. Marohn finished with five total shots and two shots on goal. Broyles took four shots (three on goal) to go with her assists.

MLC improved to 1-5 on the season and in league play with the win. Northland fell to 1-5 overall and in the UMAC in defeat.

The Knights will return to action on Tuesday, April 27,when they travel to Crown College for a game scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
