MANKATO, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's tennis team secured a fourth-place finish in the final Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) standings with a 7-2 win at Bethany Lutheran College (BLC) on Wednesday.
The Knights started strong with a 3-0 sweep in doubles. The number-one team of
Jonah Schulz and
Benjamin Foss won 8-5, the number-two team of
Seth Koelpin and
Marcus Sims won 8-2, and the number-three team of
Josiah Koelpin and
Elijah Schulz completed the sweep with an 8-2 win.
In singles, Foss (6-1, 6-0),
Seth Koelpin (6-1, 6-0),
Josiah Koelpin (6-3, 6-2) and
Elijah Schulz (6-1, 6-2) all won in straight sets to secure the overall team win by the 7-2 margin.
MLC finished the regular season 3-5 overall and 3-3 in UMAC play following the win. BLC dropped to 1-7 on the season and 1-5 in league play in defeat.
The Knights move now to the UMAC Championships Tournament, which starts tomorrow (Thursday, April 29) when they host Minnesota Morris in a match scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
