ST. PAUL - The Martin Luther College volleyball team was defeated 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-22) by St. Catherine on Friday.

The Wildcats controlled the first set from start to finish, and then won eight of the final ten points in the second set to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

MLC tried to extend the match in the third game, fighting back from a 22-13 deficit to trail 23-22 late in the set, but the Wildcats scored the final two points to finish off the sweep.

Kelsey Birschbach led the Knights with eight kills, and Rhianna Hunter chipped in five.

Kate Aswege led all players with 16 digs, while Anna Treder also reached double figures with 10 digs. Hannah Willems finished with three of the Knights' five blocks.

MLC fell to 0-5 on the season in defeat, while St. Catherine improved to 2-4 with the win.

The Knights will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, September 11) when they play matches against Buena Vista (11 a.m. at Hamline) and Whitman (1 p.m. at St. Catherine).
