MLC Women Score Shutout Win Over BVU

NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team made the most of its final non-conference tune-up with a 3-0 win over Buena Vista University (BVU) on Wednesday.

The Knights entered the day looking to get some momentum going on the offensive end and found it early, as Hannah Schroeder put the Knights on the board in the 27th minute with her first tally of the season.

MLC added some insurance right before the half, when Schroeder set up Avery Broyles in the 45th minute to push the lead to 2-0 at the break.

The offensive onslaught continued in the second half, as Kaitlin Butler put home her own rebound in the 53rd minute for her first career goal.

That was more than enough for the MLC defense, which kept the Beavers outside the box for much of the night and helped MLC keeper Grace Sievert secure her first career shutout. Sievert stopped all eight BVU shots on goal in the win.

Schroeder led all players with six shots, including three shots on goal, to go with her goal and three points. Megan Marohn added four shots on goal and five total shots.

MLC improved to 1-4-0 on the season with the win. BVU fell to 1-6-0 in defeat.

The Knights will return to action on Friday, September 24, when they travel to Northland College to resume the UMAC season. That game is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.
