ASHLAND, Wis. - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team conceded a late goal in a 2-1 defeat at Northland College on Friday.
The LumberJills took momentum into halftime with a goal in the 43rd minute to take a 1-0 lead, but the Knights righted the ship early in the second half and stayed within striking distance.
In the 61st minute, the Knights finally broke through on a penalty kick goal by Kaitlin Bulter to tie the game 1-1. The goal was Butler's second this season.
The scored remained knotted at 1-1 until the 81st minute, when Northland's Laura Hank scored the game-winner past MLC keeper
Grace Sievert to give the LumberJills the win.
The stat sheet showed an even game, with defenses doing a good job on both ends and Northland holding narrow leads in both total shots (10-9) and shots on goal (5-4).Â
Hannah Schroeder led the Knights with five total shots and two shots on goal. Siever stopped three shots in goal for MLC.
The Knights fell to 1-5-0 on the season and 0-2-0 in UMAC play in defeat. Northland improved to 2-3-1 overall and 1-1-0 in league play with the win.
MLC will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, September 25) when it travels to UW-Superior for a game scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.
