MORRIS, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's basketball were unable to slow down the hot-shooting University of Minnesota Morris (UMM) Cougars in a 114-60 loss on Saturday.
The two teams went back and forth to start the game with the Knights trailing 18-17, but the Cougars began to take over with a 16-2 run in the first half on the way to a 51-31 halftime lead.
The Cougars continued to build on that lead in the second half, shooting 56.4 percent from the field and making 10 of 17 attempts from beyond the three-point line en route to the win.
UMM finished the game shooting 58.0 percent from the field compared to 33.3 percent for MLC. The Cougars also went 14-26 (53.8 percent) from beyond the arc and 20-25 from the free throw line in the win.
Jack Heichelbech led MLC's scorers with 14 points.
Jacob Price and
Joseph Hirsch each added eight points.
MLC dropped to 2-15 on the season and 0-7 in UMAC play in defeat. UMM improved to 7-9 overall and 3-4 in league play with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Friday, January 28, when they travel to Bethany Lutheran for a game scheduled to tip off at 7:15 p.m.
