Box Score The MLC Knights lost late to Crown on a last minute touchdown, 26-20 in their homecoming game.
After stopping the Polars initial drive, the Knights opened the scoring in the first quarter with a none play, 79-yard drive. Carson Oestrecih scored on a 9 yd. TD run to put the Knights up 7-0. On the ensuing drive, Matt Hillmer intercepted a Polar pass to give the Knights another chance. On the next possession,
Joey Ehlke blocked a Polar punt and recovered in the end zone for the second Knights TD. MLC would threaten again in the second quarter off of
David Baumann's 36-yard fake punt. The drive ended as a field goal attempt hit the left upright. The Knights went in at halftime leading 14-0.
The second half saw the Knights start with good field position at their own 41. Nordlie attempted a long pass only to be intercepted by the Polars. The Polars would use their passing game to score on a 9-yd pass and a successful 2-point conversion to narrow the score to 14-8. Another interception saw the Polars take over at midfield. MLC held off the Polars at their own 17. MLC subsequently fumbled at thier own 24, and on the next play Crown scored on a 24-yd pass. A failed two-point conversion would leave the game tied at 14.
The Knights mounted an 11-play, 65-yard drive that ended on a Nordlie 24-yard run around right end. The extra point was blocked to give MLC the lead 20-14.
With 5:03 left in the game, Crown tied the game at 20-20 on a 23-yard draw play. The Knights were sacked for a 10-yard loss and were forced to punt. A short kick gave the Polars good field position, and they scored on a 7-yard TD pass with 25 seconds left. The Knights attempted a couple of trick plays but time ran out before they could mount a tying score.
The Knights fall to 0-6 on the season and 0-2 in the UMAC. The Knights host Finlandia next Saturday in another UMAC matchup.
