New Ulm, MN- The
MLC Knights entered Tuesday night's matchup coming off of a weekend trip to Milwaukee looking to regain some momentum with their first regular season home game against the Hamline Pipers
. The Knights hung in tough throughout the first half thanks to shooting 41 percent from the field. However, the Pipers matched that same shooting efficiency from MLC in the first half, shooting just below 67 percent. Despite the high octane shooting from Hamline, the Pipers coughed the ball up 15 times, allowing MLC to hang around.
In the second half, the Knights allowed 12 offensive rebounds and gave the Pipers too many second chance opportunities, which then led to Hamline going 16-of-23 from the free throw line. Those two stat lines became crucial towards Hamline's success and ultimately gave them the
80-57 win. Despite the loss, the Knights got a spirited effort from freshman guard
Thomas Balge, who finished the night with 13 points on (5-of-13) shooting from the field. Balge's main success came off isolation drives to the bucket on the left side. In addition to Balge, MLC was led in points by senior forward
Micah Kieselhorst , who put up 20 points and grabbed six rebounds. Hamline received a big night from
Daniel McCarrell who scored 18 points and also gained a double-double from
Bradley Cimperman.
MLC (0-4,0-0) will look to pick up their first win of the season with a home contest against Finlandia on Saturday, November 19th.
