New Ulm, MN -
MLC hosted the
Finlandia Lions on Saturday afternoon. The two squads' last matchup came last year when the two teams met in Wisconsin Dells. The Knights came out victorious in that one, beating Finlandia 69-67. On Saturday, they played another tight game which saw five lead changes and eight ties. However, the Knights were unable to duplicate the same late-game execution and Finlandia found a way to win this time around, escaping the LSC with a
94-91 win.
The first half had an up tempo pace to it, as Finlandia decided to apply a full court press, attempting to speed the Knights up. Despite that pressure, the Knights scored 44 points in the paint and had good shot selection, contributing to their season high of 91 points. MLC also did some damage offensively with solid penetration and by attacking the basket, gaining another season high in free throw attempts (26).
The Lions shot the ball well from deep, going 7-of-16 on 43.8 percent.
Danny Zuchak led the Lions with 23 points and three steals and was a key cog toward Finlandia's success in transition, as they scored 22 fast break points. Senior
Micah Kieselhorst showed his durability in this up-tempo game for the Knights, getting a season-high in points (24) and minutes played (39). Sophomore
Seth Veers also played hard, contributing a season-high 22 points, while junior
Ezra Blumer had a double-double with 18 points and an impressive 13 rebounds on the day.
MLC (0-5, 0-0) travels to Plymouth, WI on Tuesday, November 22, to face Lakeland, while the
Finlandia Lions improve to (2-3) on the year.
