Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | MLC SID - Adam Hussman

Carleton Shoots Past Knights

New Ulm, MN - On Monday evening the LSC saw a duel between two Knights, only this time it wasn't settled by jousting, but rather on a basketball court. MLC faced off against the Carleton Knights a week removed from a 92-62 loss against Concordia Moorhead. Carleton entered the game winning four out of their first five games, while MLC looked confident in their game plan from the opening tip and didn't back down. However, Carleton's size and shooting proved to be too much for MLC, resulting in a 99-77 win for the Knights (Carleton).

In the first eleven minutes of action, MLC was able to score inside and out with not much resistance from Carleton. The Knights (MLC) came out and hit their 3-point attempts, shooting 41.7 percent from behind the arc. Meanwhile, Carleton countered MLC's hot shooting with their own, shooting 62.5 percent from the field. Carleton's big man Jeremy Beckler used all of his 6'8" frame to score in a variety of ways, as the forward led his team with 26 points, with 18 coming in the first half.

MLC walked into halftime with a 53-40 deficit, but played tough throughout the second half, attacking the basket and getting to free throw line. The Knights (MLC) would cut it as close as twelve near the 8:00 minute mark, but Carleton utilized more of their size in pick and pop 3-point plays from Matt Banovetz, who finished with a double-double (25 points, 10 rebounds). MLC's Thomas Balge had another gritty performance (17 points) and the freshman would also shoot a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line. Seth Veers led the Knights (MLC) with 23 points, creating space with his driving ability near the basket.

Carleton would outscore MLC in bench scoring (37-12), as they were able to rotate fresh bodies out on the court, proving to be a difference maker in the second half.

MLC (0-8,0-0) will start conference play on Friday, as they host Northland in search of their first win of the season.
