New Ulm, MN - MLC men's basketball squared off against
Northland College in the UMAC season opener for both teams. Northland's
Jordan Brennan is coming off a buzzer beating three-pointer against St. Scholastica that contributed towards him being named UMAC player of the week. MLC looked to contain Brennan from the perimeter and successfully did so, as Brennan shot 0-of-2 from 3 point territory and only finished with 11 points. However, MLC was unable to keep up with the depth of the Lumberjacks, with eleven players ending up in the scoring column. The balanced attack resulted in a Northland win (
65-52).
The Knights gained a double-double from
Thomas Balge (11 points and 10 rebounds), who did a good job finding open creases in the lane. Meanwhile, the Lumberjacks' defense made it difficult for MLC to get open shots and the Knights shot 33.8 percent from the floor. Guards
Langston Flowers and
Kevon Powell stepped up big in the second half for Northland and were active in the passing lanes.
Micah Kieselhorst played hard and led MLC with 13 points and six rebounds, muscling his way to the basket.
MLC (0-9,0-1) will face UW-Superior on Saturday, December 10th for their second UMAC matchup.
