Knights Fall to Hot-Shooting Eagles in Regular Season Finale

ST. PAUL - The Martin Luther College men's basketball team could not slow down the hot-shooting Eagles from University of Northwestern-St. Paul (UNW) in an 85-56 loss in Saturday's regular season finale.

The Eagles clinched the UMAC regular season championship on Friday in a buzzer-beating win over Bethany Lutheran College and played with confidence from the start, making 14 three-pointers in the first half en route to a 60-25 halftime lead and the win.

UNW was on fire for much of the game from the outside, making 18 of their first 29 attempts from beyond the arc before missing their final nine attempts to finish the game at 47.4 percent from downtown.

The Knights struggled to match them from distance, shooting 4-25 from beyond the arc and 33.8 percent overall for the game.

Jacob Price was the leading scorer for MLC with 14 points off the bench.

MLC fell to 5-20 on the season and 2-12 in UMAC play in defeat. UNW improved to 19-6 overall and 13-1 in league play with the win.

These two teams will meet again next week, when the Knights travel to UNW for the opening round of the UMAC Postseason Tournament on Tuesday, February 22. That game is scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m.
