MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - The Martin Luther College men's tennis team lost its Thursday match at Cornell College by the final of 7-2.
MLC jumped on the board in number-three tennis thanks to an 8-5 win by the team of
Marcus Sims and
Elijah Schulz, but the Rams won the other two doubles contests 8-1 and 8-1 to take a 2-1 overall lead.
In singles play, Sims scored his second point of the day with a 6-2, 6-1 win, but Cornell was able to win the other five matches. Schulz took his number-five singles match to a tiebreaker, but fell 6-3, 6-7, 0-1 (10-3).
MLC dropped to 0-4 on the season in defeat. Cornell improved to 6-9 with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, April 2, when they host UW-Superior in the home opener at 1:00 p.m.
