MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - The Martin Luther College women's tennis team dropped its non-conference match at Cornell 6-3 on Thursday.
The Knights scored their first point in doubles thanks to an 8-0 win by the number-three team of
Abigail Schewe and
Katie Kutz, but the Rams won the other two doubles contests by the scores of 8-0 and 8-2 to take a 2-1 overall lead.
In singles, MLC scored two points thanks to straight sets wins by number-five
Sarah Hoffe (6-2, 6-0) and number-six
Hannah Broring (6-3, 6-0), but Cornell took the first four singles matches to secure the overall win.
MLC fell to 0-5 on the season in defeat. Cornell improved to 7-13 with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, April 2, when they host UW-Superior in the first home match of the season at 1:00 p.m.
