NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College baseball team lost both games of its home doubleheader against Crown College on Monday by the scores of 12-1 and 28-6.
Crown 12, MLC 1
The Storm hit three home runs to power its way to a 12-1 win in game one.
Crown scored once in each of the first two innings, but broke the game open with four runs in the third inning, and then five more in the fifth to put the game away.
The Storm finished the game with 15 hits, 13 of which came off starting pitcher
Andrew Deisinger (0-3), who took the loss after going the first 4.2 innings and allowing all 12 runs (10 earned).
Zach Klement pitched a scoreless final 2.1 innings in relief for the Knights.
Mason Cox recorded both hits for the Knights in the game.Â
Crown 28, MLC 6
The Knights started strong, but a pair of disaster innings went the way of the Storm as Crown completed the sweep with a 28-6 win.
The Storm jumped in front 3-0 in the first inning, but MLC responded with four runs in the second and two more in the third inning to take a 6-3 lead.
Elijah Henning started the scoring with an RBI-double, while Cox, Klement and
Jonas Lindemann also drove in runs.
MLC still led 6-5 after four innings, but Crown exploded for seven runs in the fifth to take a 12-6 lead, and then scored 16 times in the sixth to put the game away.
Reagan Moore (0-2) took the loss after 4.1 innings on the mound. Cox and
Alex Ritter each recorded two hits.
MLC fell to 2-14 on the season and 2-4 in UMAC play in defeat. Crown improved to 11-9 overall and 4-2 in league play with the wins.
The Knights will return to action on Wednesday, April 13, when they travel to Bethany Lutheran College for a game scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
