Softball Loses Two at Northland

ASHLAND, Wis. - The Martin Luther College softball team was unable to slow down the offense of Northland College late in both games of a doubleheader on Monday as they lost game one 9-6 and game two 10-3.

Northland 9, MLC 6

The LumberJills scored three late runs to defeat MLC 9-6 in the opener.

The Knights trailed 6-3 after two innings, but came back to tie the game in the fourth inning thanks to a two-run single by Kylie Wolf, followed by an RBI-double from Elena Hoffman.

Northland answered with one run in the bottom half of the fourth to take a one-run lead, and then added two insurance runs in the sixth to put the game away.

Jordyn Heckendorf recorded three hits and scored twice at the top of the order for MLC, while Hoffman added three hits of her own. Wolf led the Knights with three runs batted in.

Madison Uhlenbrauck (3-10) went the distance in the circle, allowing nine runs (five earned) in six innings.

Northland 10, MLC 3

Northland scored six times in the sixth inning on the way to a 10-3 win in game two to secure the doubleheader sweep.

Heckendorf put the Knights on the board with an RBI-double in the second inning, and Hoffman cut the deficit to 4-3 in the fifth inning with a two-run home run (her fifith of the season).

Leading by one after five innings, the LumberJills put the game away with six runs in the sixth inning, pushing their advantage to seven before sealing the game in the final inning.

Heckendorf, Wolf and Busch each finished with two hits to lead the Knights. Jessica Horn (2-10) allowed four runs in 4.2 innings in the circle in defeat.

The Knights fell to 7-21 on the season and 2-12 in UMAC play after the two defeats. Northland improved to 7-23 overall and 6-10 in league play with the sweep.

MLC will return to action tomorrow (Tuesday, April 26) when it travels to North Central for a doubleheader scheduled to start at 12:45 p.m.
