NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's tennis team closed the home schedule with a 5-4 defeat to Bethany Lutheran College (BLC) on Wednesday.
The two teams split the six singles matches, as
McKenzey Crowley (6-4. 6-3),
Sarah Hoffe (6-1, 6-0) and
Hannah Broring (6-0, 6-0) won their numbers one, four and six matches in straight sets.
The difference came in doubles play, where the Knights' number-three team of
Katie Kutz and
Abigail Schewe earned an 8-2 win, but the Vikings took the other two matches 8-7 (7-3 tiebreaker) and 8-3.
MLC fell to 1-13 on the season and 1-6 in UMAC play in defeat. The win was BLC's first of the season, improving their record to 1-11 overall and 1-7 in league play.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, April 30, when they close the regular season with a match at Northwestern-St. Paul scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
