The Martin Luther College Knights battled Nebraska Wesleyan University in the season opener on September 1 and lost to the Prairie Wolves 27-25, 25-17, and 25-23.
The Knights fought hard in the first game with a thrilling back and forth match. Going to extra points, having to win by 2, they fell short of the victory at a score of 27-25.
Grace Kieselhorst led the Knights with 9 kills, while Lauren Paulson had a strong opening night with 15 digs. Hannah Willems also made her mark in the match by putting up 10 points for the Knights.
After the season opener, head coach Emma Holzhueter said, "despite the lineup change and score outcome, the Knights stayed resilient. They never let up or gave up on the match."
MLC will return to action on Friday, September 2 in Beloit, participating in the Beloit tournament. Here, they will play the Rockford Regents (3:00 p.m) and the Simpson Storm (5:00 p.m).
