MLC women's team returned to action on Wednesday evening to face off against Nebraska Wesleyan. The Knights entered the contest with a 68-65 loss to Buena Vista before the Winter break. The Prairie Wolves lost to fellow UMAC opponent in Crown College on Tuesday 56-51. MLC played a complete game, leading for all 40 minutes and snapped a four-game losing skid, defeating Nebraska Wesleyan
63-52.
The Knights looked confident from the beginning of play, getting out to a 24-12 lead after the first quarter of action. They would extend that lead to 16, which would be their biggest lead of the game at the 5:23 mark of the second quarter. Forward
Emma Nelson had another impressive performance, finishing with a team-high 16 points, while shooting 54 percent on (7-of-13) from the floor. The junior also collected 11 rebounds, which gave her her second double-double of the season.
Overall, MLC had great spacing and ball movement and as a result shot the ball well from the floor, shooting 44 percent on (22-of-50) from the field. The Knights also benefited from a slew of Nebraska Wesleyan mistakes and had 17 points off turnovers.
Jordyn Heckendorf also played a key role in the win scoring 13 points on 50 percent from the field, while
Lydia Feidt followed up her best game of the season at Buena Vista, with 10 points and 7 rebounds.
The MLC Knights improve to (5-6, 0-2) on the season and will be back at it on Saturday when they head to Mankato to face their in-conference rival Bethany. The matchup will be at 4:45 pm, which follows the 3 pm MLC men's game.
