Vikings Best MLC 5-1

Mankato, MN - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team fell to the Bethany Vikings 5-1 on Wednesday.

In the previous meeting between the two rivals, Bethany came out on top with a 1-0 win, with the Vikings firing off 29 shots. This time around, Bethany took fewer shots (21), but converted on five of them to springboard themselves past MLC.

Bethany struck open the scoring with a 3rd minute goal from Olaitz Muguruza following a corner kick. The Vikings would tack on three more goals in the first period to further distance themselves from the Knights.

Muguruza found the back of the net for a second time in the 62nd minute, putting her team up 5-0.

The Knights would break their scoreless drought with Naomi Foley's first goal of the season when she rattled off her shot in the 73rd minute of play. Forward Lydia Krenke played hard for MLC and managed three shots on goal.

MLC now goes to (3-8-2, 2-5-2) for the season and will aim for a season sweep of Crown in their next game, which will be played on Saturday, October 14, at 1 p.m. in St. Bonifacius, MN.
