Offense Heats Up, Defeats North Central 5-2

Minneapolis, MN - Katie Schoeneck records a hat trick, the offense got going, and the Martin Luther College women's soccer team picked up their second conference win of the season in a 5-2 win over the North Central Rams.

Following their loss to UW-Superior on Saturday in which the Knights were unable to attempt a shot, the offense responded with 26 shots (13 on target) to regain some confidence moving forward.

Kaitlin Butler opened up the game with a corner kick goal in the first minute to put the Knights on the board. The first period goal gave the senior her second goal of the season, with the first coming against Dakota Wesleyan in early September.

The Schoeneck sisters tacked onto the 1-0 lead with a goal apiece in the 22nd (Katie) and 29th minute (Rachel). Katie would complete her hat trick and career-high in goals scored with two more scores at the 42nd and 56th minute.

The rest of the MLC offense was aggressive and found some space to get shots near the net, as Lydia Krenke and Naomi Foley had four shots, while Madeline Walz had three shot attempts.

Reba Schroeder recorded four saves at the goalkeeper position, while allowing two North Central goals in the second period.

MLC (3-7-1, 2-4-1) looks to grab their third UMAC victory against Northland on Parents' Day on Saturday, October 7.

The two teams met on September 16, where the Lumberjills won 3-2 in a game in which the Knights controlled the tempo and flow for the majority of the 90 minutes played. Kickoff for Saturday's game is slated for 1 p.m.
